Meet Stephen Preston, Vice President and Co-Founder of Exempt Edge
Tell us a little about your organization and why you got into this space.
At Exempt Edge we believe that participants of the Private Capital Markets of Canada have been historically underserved when it comes to technological solutions. Because of that, we created a total Software Solution for all participants of the Canadian Private Capital Markets. Our goal is to create robust software solutions specifically designed for Exempt Market Dealers, Mortgage Investment Entities and Issuers raising capital in this space.
Who are your clients and what types of regulatory challenges are they facing?
We offer total software solutions for all participants of the Canadian Private Capital Markets including: Mortgage Investment Corporations, Exempt Market Dealers, Dealing Representatives, Issuers and Fund Managers. The challenge for these groups has been largely surrounding regulatory compliance specifically related to CRM2 Reporting, KYC and KYP tracking. Our mission is to build amazing software that puts our industry on a level playing field with other segments of the wealth-building industry.
What type of emerging technology do you think will have the greatest impact on your business/industry?
Looking to the future of investing, we think the technology that will have the greatest impact is artificial intelligence. When we talk about AI from an investing standpoint, we are looking at technology that will be able to make smarter, more refined investment-matching recommendations.
Why did you join the CRTA? How do you think the CRTA will help your business / industry?
We fully believe in the growth of the RegTech community, particularly within Canada. By joining the CRTA we are looking forward to being a part of a growing industry where we will be able to network with other like-minded businesses. Our hope is that our membership in the CRTA will help us to foster strong connections, allowing us to build on our business by finding ways to collaborate with others looking to make their mark in the RegTech community.
