![]() Meet Mark Rowan, CEO and Co-Founder Data Sentinel Inc. Tell us a little about your organization and why you got into this space. The massive growth of data held within corporations, coupled with new and evolving data privacy regulations and the ever-increasing risk of data breach, has caused companies to view data as a potential risk. Data Sentinel was created to help companies control and mitigate this risk. Data Sentinel is a data trust platform that helps businesses manage data governance, privacy and quality, persistently. The core of Data Sentinel is our deep learning discovery technology that allows you to know exactly what is in your data - measuring the risk, quality, and critical data elements, regardless of the source, location, type or scale of data. Data Sentinel tracks and manages the data in real time against policies and rules - persistently measuring data usage and placement against those policies; triggering automated data remediation actions which ensure correct, compliant, and well governed data for your business. Data that you can trust. Who are your clients and what types of regulatory challenges are they facing?
Our clients are businesses that are now or are striving to be “data driven”. Organizations that manage complex, sometimes very large data holdings that are necessary to operate their companies. The primary industries that we service are financial services, healthcare, retail, travel and tourism, utilities, and government. The commonality among these industry verticals is a need to manage their data responsibly and a requirement to comply with evolving data privacy regulations. What type of emerging technology do you think will have the greatest impact on your business/industry? AI has already had a big impact on our business, and we think that it will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Both as it pertains to Data Sentinel’s use of elements of AI in our technology, and also how our clients are implementing AI, a data dependant technology. Why did you join the CRTA? How do you think the CRTA will help your business / industry? We see the CRTA as an organization that we can participate in to connect with professionals and organizations concerned with Canadian regulatory compliance and to promote our technology as a mechanism to automate some key elements of compliance, specifically in the space of data privacy and governance.
