Meet Nandini Jolly, Founder, President and CEO

Tell us a little about your organization and why you are in this space?

Picture

Mine was a case of the John Lennon song – “Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans” Having worked for Bank of America at the FX desk and then Deloitte in the Capital Markets Group, through a series of events, my destiny led me to this most unexpected path of entrepreneurship. And while I had no idea of what it entailed, I intuitively started to realize I was in a critical industry.  Although this was a few years ago, when data protection and cyber were not at the forefront of most people’s minds, I met some fabulous, hardworking engineers, and together we started innovating on this path of cyber security.

CryptoMill had already been established in the cybersecurity market collectively taking a data-first approach.  We call ourselves pioneers and were one of the first Canadian companies to adopt a zero-trust architecture while designing our Circles of Trust security software suite, which has now become the standard of the CIO Council’s Data-Centric Security Strategy across Canada. It enables data-centric security where the encryption travels with the data, anywhere, everywhere. From then on, we became unstoppable.

Who are your clients and what types of regulatory challenges are they facing?

Our Enterprise clients are looking to address needs driven by GDPR, HIPPA – our Defence and Government clients are focused on ensuring robust accreditations relating to ciphers, Crypto modules, and in more recent times, support of post-quantum cryptography. Since our platform is built on a flexible architecture with a focus on security from the very beginning, we are able to quickly add new capabilities to support secure sharing while working remotely, prevent Zoom bombing with Circles Orchestrated Discussion Arena, CODA – a web-based app for video conferencing and chats with built-in security privacy, AI monitored logging to detect unusual activities, Geofencing and Redaction – segregated access on the same file on a need to know basis.

Can you describe your underlying technology and what’s on your product roadmap for the next major planned release?

The Circles of Trust security suite secures the data itself, using encryption, and not the media or container in which the data resides, ensuring that the data remains protected at rest and as it is transferred to another container. Copies of the data inherit the security attributes of the original data item by default. Users may, if duly authorized, modify the security attributes of the copied data. Any information or metadata required to access the data is embedded in the data item itself so that it can be accessed wherever the data resides (e.g.: network shares, mobile devices, removable media, etc.). Circles of Trust provides the capability to control WHO can access the data, WHAT they can do with it, WHEN they can do it, and WHERE they can do it; all while providing a detailed audit trail of data transactions for regulatory compliance and data leakage investigations.

Can you name some of your clients? (optional)
Our clients range across various different industries including Military/Defence, Financial Institutions, Healthcare, Critical Infrastructure, Media, Aerospace, Automotive, etc.

Last question, can you share with us why CryptoMill became a member of the Canadian RegTech Association? and do you have any suggestions on how we might enhance our support of RegTech companies?

We are all living through unprecedented times - first with the pandemic and then the stark horror of the current geopolitical environment. Given that we are not in 1944 but 2022, it is shocking to also be privy to war, following two years of disruption in the lockdown stage.

I believe the Canadian Reg Tech Association is in a powerful place with an impactful platform to facilitate dialogue, and collaborative discussions and partake in addressing critical world issues as thought leaders. With its platform and the collective voices of its members, the RegTech association is uniquely positioned to lead progressive dialogue amongst industry, innovators, and policymakers, champion and promote the innovative use of technology and contribute to bringing calm to a chaotic world.
